Positive vibes for Nelson

Simon Collings

ARSENAL have held positive contract talks with Reiss Nelson this week — and there is a growing feeling the winger will stay at the club.

Nelson’s current contract is due to expire at the end of next month and AC Milan and Brighton have expressed an interest in the winger.

His desire, however, has always been to stay at Arsenal, after joining them at the age of eight and coming through their academy.

The 23-year-old (above) had rejected previous contract offers, with discusWILL sions starting in November, but talks this week have gone well.

Nelson has struggled for minutes this season, but has proved a useful option for Mikel Arteta off the bench and has three goals to his name.

When Arteta was hired by Arsenal in 2019, Nelson was one of those he thrust into the first team, but his form dipped and he spent last season on loan at Feyenoord. Nelson missed last week’s defeat at Nottingham Forest due to illness, but hopes to return for Sunday’s final game of the season, at home against Wolves.
