THE KEY CLASHES

Owen Farrell v George Ford

The two England fly-halves and long-term friends will go directly up against each other in a mouthwatering contest. Farrell is the “genius” and Ford the “little master”, according to Saracens hooker and England team-mate Jamie George. Farrell has spearheaded Saracens’ drive to expand their game this season, while Ford is back to his best after a torn Achilles tendon.

Nick Tompkins v Manu Tuilagi

Centre Tompkins has been central to Sarries’ attacking game and has powered his way into Warren Gatland’s Wales team. He boasts an all-court game that helps them launch their long-range attacks, but also has the physicality to defend manfully. Tuilagi’s raw power has long been his main weapon, and Saracens must shut him down to thwart Sale’s attacking intent.

Ben Earl v Tom Curry

Openside flanker Earl is one of the Premiership’s standout stars, but the 25-year-old has been unable to convince England boss Steve Borthwick that he warrants a place in his starting line-up. Curry, by contrast, is an England mainstay and will be crucial to Borthwick’s World Cup plans. Both men are adept over the ball and potent and direct in attack.
