Cech the latest to quit Blues in wake of Boehly takeover

PETR CECH has joined the exodus at Chelsea after deciding to leave Stamford Bridge following the Todd Boehly takeover.

Cech (below) today stepped down from his role as technical and performance advisor with Chelsea, following the departures last week of chairman Bruce

Buck and director Marina Granovskaia.

His exit puts even more responsibility on new owner Boehly, who has taken over control of transfers while the club looks for a new sporting director.

“It has been a huge privilege to perform this role at Chelsea for the past three years,” Cech said.

“With the club under new ownership, I feel now is the right time for me to step aside. I am pleased that the club is now in an excellent position with the new owners, and I am confident of its future success both on and off the pitch.”

Boehly said: “Petr is an important member of the Chelsea family. We understand his decision to step away and thank him for his contributions as an advisor and his commitment to the club and to our community. We wish him the best.”

Chelsea are preparing an opening bid for Raheem Sterling, with a move for Cristiano Ronaldo unlikely, despite Boehly holding talks with the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes. Manchester City could demand up to £60million for Sterling, who is ready to move this summer. Chelsea are also making a move to sign Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt.
