NEW LOOK FOR KNIGHT’S SIDE AFTER KEY RETIREMENTS

ENGLAND Women selected four debutants and opted to bowl first in their Test match against South Africa at Taunton, writes

Will Macpherson.

This is England’s first Test since the retirements of legendary bowlers Katherine Brunt and Anya Shrubsole, giving their bowling attack a fresh look.

Kate Cross leads it, with debutant seamers Lauren Bell and Issy Wong (above) joining her in the attack. Another new face, Alice Davidson-Richards, offers all-round support from No7.

Bell and Wong are particularly exciting pace options, whose arrivals signal a new era for the side.

The fourth debut goes to Emma Lamb, who is down to open the batting alongside Tammy Beaumont.

Heather Knight won the toss and put in South Africa, who are missing key players such as Shabnim Ismail and Dane van Niekerk.

“It looks a good, hard pitch, but if we’re going to get anything out of it, it will be this morning,” said Knight.
