GAS HORROR WOMAN KILLED AND MAN INJURED IN HOUSE BLAST

John Dunne

A woman has been found dead after a huge gas explosion at a house in Birmingham.

The blast in Dulwich Road, Kingstanding, destroyed the property and badly damaged a number of neighbouring homes and parked cars.

Neighbours described how they clambered past flaming debris and rubble, and pulled an injured man alive from the ruins of the house. He is in hospital in a life-threatening condition.

But West Midlands Fire Service confirmed the body of a woman had been found this morning. One neighbour said: “We went in the house, me and about a dozen others. There was a guy in the back screaming. We got him out but he was saying there was a woman in the house.”

The area was evacuated after the blast shortly before 8.30pm last night and four other men were treated at the scene for minor injuries. The fire service said it was working with West Midlands police and ambulance service, Cadent Gas and the National Grid.
