Forster to join Spurs on short-term deal

Dan Kilpatrick

TOTTENHAM are set to make Fraser Forster their first signing of the summer, with the veteran goalkeeper to join the club on a free transfer from Southampton.

Forster, 34, will undergo a medical at Spurs and is expected to sign a shortterm deal to be understudy to No1 Hugo Lloris next season.

Spurs want a home-grown deputy to club captain Lloris next season and previously considered West Brom’s

Sam Johnstone, who is also out of contract this summer.

Pierluigi Gollini is set to return to his parent club Atalanta at the end of his loan spell, despite saying he would be happy to stay at the club.

Spurs hope Forster (right) will be the first of a raft of summer signings to convince head coach Antonio Conte to remain in charge.

Conte is back in his native Italy on holiday and Spurs’ managing director

Fabio Paratici is expected to fly out to meet him at the end of this week for crunch talks over the head coach’s future. The club is expected to guarantee Conte he will be backed in the summer and have control of transfers. Meanwhile, Spurs will play Sevilla in Suwon in the second match of their summer tour of South Korea on July 16. Spurs begin the trip with a game against Team K-League in Seoul on July 13.
