Bellerin’s Betis dream

Simon Collings

ARSENAL defender Hector Bellerin wants to stay at Real Betis after a dream loan spell at his boyhood club.

The right-back helped Betis win the Copa del Rey and was in tears after their final game of the season in La Liga.

Betis would like to keep Bellerin, but his wages of around £100,000-a-week may prove a stumbling block.

Bellerin has one year left on his Gunners’ contract and is due to hold talks with manager Mikel Arteta and senior club officials this summer.

The 27-year-old joined the Arsenal academy over a decade ago and has close ties to the club, but he has been revitalised by his loan spell at Betis.

Writing on Instagram, he said: “Thanks to everyone in the Betis universe for helping me fall in love again with this sport, for all your passion and for making me feel like one of your own from the start. I hope we can meet again.”

Real Betis president Angel Haro has raised the prospect of signing Bellerin on a permanent deal, saying: “Hector is a fantastic player and a very good person. It was a loan that we had from Arsenal, now he returns to Arsenal, and from then on we’ll see. Hopefully, we cross paths again.”
