Rehab hope for bike courier who suffered fractured spine

A VOLUNTEER motorbike courier suffered a fractured spine when a car driver pulled into his path as he delivered Covid testing kits to a London hospital.
Christopher Riggs, 60, today spoke about the crash which happened in south-east London in June. Mr Riggs, pictured, said he was now attempting to rebuild his life after lawyers helped secure rehabilitation funds. He also suffered a broken right arm, fractured ankle, pelvis and dislocated shoulder but described his rehabilitation as a “major boost”. His injuries have prevented him helping his daughter Sarah, 39, look after her son, Hari, four, who is having treatment for leukaemia.
Police decided to take no action against the driver but Irwin Mitchell solicitors secured an admission of liability from the driver’s insurers and funding for him to access rehabilitation. Lawyer Natasha Fairs said: “The serious injuries he suffered have had a real impact on not only his life but his wider family.”
