Sport

HANNAH COCKROFT (Athletics) The wheelchair racer (left) has five golds from previous Games and will compete in the T34 100m and 800m. ‘Hurricane Hannah’ broke her own world records in the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m earlier this year. Her profile has been raised since Rio by several television roles, including on The Great British Bake Off. SARAH STOREY (Cycling) At 43, Storey (far left) goes into her eighth Paralympics, having already claimed 14 golds. If she wins all three of her events, the time trial and road race as well as the individual pursuit on the track, she will become Britain’s most successful Paralympian surpassing swimmer Mike Kenny. DAVID SMITH (Boccia) Boccia, broadly similar to bowls, is one of the few Paralympic disciplines not to have an Olympic counterpart and, in Smith, Britain boasts one of the finest exponents. The reigning Paralympic and world champion, he has four medals from his three Games, including team gold at Beijing 2008 and individual gold in Brazil. LEE PEARSON (Equestrian) One of Britain’s greatest ever Paralympians, Pearson’s 11 golds include a remarkable run between Sydney 2000 and Beijing 2008, where he won individual, freestyle and team dressage titles at three successive Games. Now 47, Pearson is heading to his sixth Games.
