HURDLER SMASHES HER OWN RECORD

US athlete Sydney McLaughlin said she was glad to “push the boundaries of what’s possible” as she smashed her own world record to win gold in a spectacular 400m hurdles final.

The 21-year-old slashed 0.44 off her record in a run of 51.46 seconds in which she beat team-mate Dalilah Muhammad on the line, winning by 0.12 seconds.

She said: “Every time athletes step on the track, records seem to be broken, so it’s cool to be a part of that and push back the boundaries of what’s possible.”
