Murray’s Slam bid boosted

ANDY MURRAY could be handed a lifeline for the French Open with a wildcard, writes Matt Majendie.

Murray, ranked 123rd in the world, is preparing to take part in qualifying for the Grand Slam but tournament director Guy Forget said he was deserving of a place in the main draw.

Wildcards for the event, from May 30 to June 13, have yet to be announced.

Forget said: “I know Andy is practising right now in Rome, I saw him play some games with Novak Djokovic.

“Andy is a great player, he sure deserves one [a wildcard]. It is a discussion we have to have with him. We want to see him in good shape, I hope he feels well.”
